Financial Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for Malta’s Nomad Residence Permit, applicants must demonstrate financial stability through a minimum gross annual income of €42,000. This requirement ensures that nomadic professionals can support themselves and any dependents throughout their stay.
The government application fee of €300 applies to each applicant, including any family members included in the application. This straightforward fee structure makes the programme accessible whilst maintaining quality standards.

- Employment or Business Status Meet one of three qualifying conditions: foreign employment contract, shareholding in overseas company, or freelance/consulting arrangements with international clients.
Three Pathways to Qualification
Applicants must satisfy one of the following employment or business conditions to be eligible for the Nomad Residence Permit:
Foreign Employment
Be employed by a company registered outside Malta under a valid employment contract. Your employer must be based abroad, and you must be able to perform your duties remotely from Malta.
Business Partnership
Conduct business activities for a company registered outside Malta in which you hold a position as shareholder or partner. This pathway suits entrepreneurs with equity stakes in international ventures.
Freelance & Consulting
Provide professional freelance or consulting services to clients with permanent establishments outside Malta. Valid service contracts must support your application and demonstrate ongoing client relationships.

The Nomad Residence Permit recognises that relocation decisions often involve entire families. The principal applicant may include eligible family members as part of their application, ensuring everyone can enjoy Malta together.
Eligible Dependents Include:
- Spouses/life partners in a long-term relationship (including same-sex couples)
- Minor children: Unmarried children under 18 years of age belonging to the main applicant and/or spouse/partner
- Adult dependent children: Unmarried adult children who remain principally dependent on the main applicant financially
- Children with disabilities: Adult children unable to cope independently due to medical conditions or disabilities
Important note: When including a minor child without sole custody who will not be accompanied by both parents, prior approval from Residency Malta Agency is required. These situations are examined individually on a case-by-case basis to ensure all legal requirements are met.
